EASTER SATURDAY TECH NOTE 14 August 2008. 1. Dates As an addition to the general understanding dates shall always be either in Swedish/COBOL format (e.g. 2008-08-14) or shall have the months expressed in words (e.g. 14 August 2008 or August 14 2008). Anything else and you end up with a Mars Lander! 2. Stem The stem is intended to be ‘bullet shaped’. More precisely it should be approximately hyperbolic in plan. Trying to draw this accurately is extremely difficult and will result in required limits of accuracy that are simply silly. It is therefore a matter of DFS (Develop Full Size – in UK, anyway). 3. Hull dimensions The hull is intended to fit into the box diagonally. Rotation is ‘horizontal’ only. The hull should be checked against the measurement box at an early stage of construction. If it is oversize by much, call the designer first and your lawyer second! If it is only slightly oversize, do either or both of the following. a) Adjust the rounding of the stem so that it fits further into the corner of the box. b) Round off the transom as seen in plan. Note that you MUST NOT round of the edge of the transom. There must be a clear transition at which the flow can break away from the immersed portion of the ransom. High up you can do what you want. In desperation you can reduce the overall length by simply truncating the stern.
